How To Fix That Hole On Your Shirt.

The horror of finding a hole on that really cool shirt you recently acquired and were planning to wear out for that gig is better imagined than experienced. Unfortunately, this is the case of many, from day to day.

However, that minor hole on your shirt does not mean you have to throw it out or relegate it to be worn strictly indoors with the lights out. You can fix the hole in your shirt from the comfort of your home, following these simple steps:

  • Get a thread that matches your shirt: The idea is to hide the hole and using a thread of another color or shade will make your work stand out and you don’t want that.
  • Thread your needle with the chosen thread. If you do not find a thread that directly matches your shirt then find one that is very close. It is advisable to go with a darker shade of the fabric than a lighter one.
  • Start your stitching from inside out and sew very closely in a clockwise movement. As you repeat your stitches back and forth along the hole, the edges of the hole should get pulled together, closing the hole in, until it is completely sewn together.
  • Once that is done, bring the needle back inside the shirt and tie several knots right against the fabric to ensure that the stitches stay in place. Then, cut off any remaining thread with scissors.

You can also just sew a fancy patch over the hole instead of trying to match the fabric or cover the hole by embroidering patterns over and around it.

A way easier method, however, especially if you do not know how to use a needle, is the fabric glue option. If the tear is in a straight line or the hole is not that wide, you can just buy and apply the glue across the tear from the inside and you’re good to go.
